Xuanbi Great Wall

Xuanbi Great wall is located on north of Black Mountain which is eight kilometers away from Jiayuguan tower. This part of great wall was built in 1539 in Jiajing period in Ming Dynasty to strengthen the defense of Jiayuguan Great Wall. The project was finished in 1540. Then the defense work was more rigor in Jiayuguan great wall and it was called “Duanbi Great Wall”. The wall falls down from the top of the mountain. It looks like hanging on the mountain ridge. The iron wall hangs in the air and blocks the Shiguan Xiaokou so it is named “Xuanbi Great Wall”. Tourists in Jiayuguan Great Wall travel must visit this part.
There is only part of Xuanbi Great Wall. The bottom is 4 meters and two meter wide up. It is 0.5 –6 meters high. The flag thick is 10—15 centimeters and the soil layer thick is 10—12 centimeters. The remained 750 meters great wall was rebuilt in 1987. Among this part, 231 meters great wall hangs in 150 high and 45 centigrade gradient. It is six meters high. Jiayuguan City Tower

On the east and west city wall there is gate on each side. The gate tower is symmetrical. The city tower is symmetrical. It has three floors and five rooms. There is corridor surround the city tower. “Jia Yu Guan” three Chinese words are carved on the gate. There was city tower and it has the same layout with the east and west towers. It is said that when the city was built the craftsman calculated the materials very fine. When the project was finished, there was only one brick left. This brick is on the eave platform in west barbican gateway. N west of the Jiayuguan city there is a stone tablet with “Tian xia Xiong Guan” four Chinese words. Outside the east barbican there is Wenchang Pavilion, Guandi temple and theatrical stage. They are built in Qing Dynasty. Jiayuguan city is a good place to have a visit.
Jiayuguan City
